Raiders manage to land a conditional draft pick in P.J. Hall trade

The Las Vegas Raiders have managed to land a late-round conditional draft pick in the P.J. Hall.
The Las Vegas Raiders have seemingly been able to swindle a late-round pick away for a player who they fully intended on releasing in defensive tackle P.J. Hall.
It was reported earlier Monday morning that the Raiders were releasing the former second-round pick after just two seasons with the organization. But while Hall won’t be playing for the Raiders anymore, it won’t be because he was released.
As first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Raiders have officially traded Hall to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft pick.
As Schefter indicated, the conditions of the deal will be met if Hall is on the Vikings’ 53-man roster for at least six games. That seems pretty possible seeing as though Minnesota just lost standout defensive tackle Michael Pierce for the season following his decision to opt-out.
Hall could be seen as part of a group of players that will look to replace Pierce which means that he should be given an opportunity to earn playing time.
Either way, it’s impressive that the Raiders were able to get anything for a guy who they clearly planned on releasing. That alone should be seen as a victory.
The Raiders clearly whiffed on their 2018 second-round selection of P.J. Hall.
Hall was seen as a major project coming out of Sam Houston State as an athletically-gifted, but raw talent. The Texas native dominated at the FCS level and tore up the NFL Combine running a blazing 4.73 40-yard dash rocketing him up draft boards.
But while his pathetic traits were obvious, he still required a great deal of development once he got to the NFL. And evidently, he failed to develop how the Raiders hoped over his first two seasons.
Combine that with the constant concerns about his worth ethic and weight and it seemed clear that Hall didn’t have much of a future with the organization. The signing of Maliek Collins in the offseason likely sealed his fate.
Obviously, giving up so quickly on a talented player like Hall with the draft pedigree that he has is always concerning. But it appears as though there were external factors at play here such as his work ethic.
At the very least, the Raiders were able to get something for him. So if there’s any positive takeaway from this, that would be it.
