3. The Warriors should target JaVale McGee

Landing JaVale McGee would be no easy task for the Warriors, but they should at least take a flier on the potential soon-to-be free agent.

The 32-year-old’s skill set and familiarity within Golden State’s organization in recent years could make him a sought after target for the Warriors to fill their vacant center position.

After bouncing around the league for most of his career, McGee found a temporary home with the Warriors from 2016-18, winning two championships in the process.

McGee was a significant part in their success, and a reunion makes sense for both sides involved, but would prove difficult due to circumstance.

More from Golden State Warriors

McGee is currently the starting center for the Los Angeles Lakers and has a $4.2 million player option for next season. The odds of him opting-out of that seem slim to none, as the Lakers are at their best in over a decade, and McGee’s contributions have been a valuable part of that.

Prying the center away from Los Angeles would be difficult given their success, but if anyone could do it, it seems the Warriors are the best equipped.

Almost certain to jump back into contention next season, the Warriors could be an intriguing option for free agents, especially centers.

Given McGee’s history with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Steve Kerr, and the entire organization, they could seemingly make an attempt to lure him away from Los Angeles.

The most significant variable in the situation is if JaVale McGee decides to even opt-out of his player option for next season. If he were to hit the open market, the Warriors should pick up the phone, hoping for a reunion.
