4. Salvon Ahmed, RB, Washington

A scat-back, Salvon Ahmed had one 1,000-yard season in his three years with the Huskies. That was last year where he rushed for 1,020 yards and 11 touchdowns on a 5.4 average. He also caught 16 passes for 84 yards.

Ahmed is shifty, quick, and knows how to make guys miss in the open field. On the other hand, he won’t break many tackles through contact, and scouting reports stress his lack of vision. Vision is probably the most important trait for a running back so that could be a problem.

You would think the 49ers are looking for a guy who can power it out especially in short-yardage situations, as that is a skill-set their running-back room currently lacks. Ahmed is not that guy.

Still, JaMycal Hasty (the other undrafted free agent running back signed) really isn’t that guy either, so it will be an interesting battle between the two undrafted running-backs.

I believe Ahmed is the more physically-gifted back, but also believe Hasty has a better chance of making the team for other reasons that we will get to shortly.

3. Darrion Daniels, DL, Nebraska

Darrion Daniels played four seasons at Oklahoma State prior to leaving for Nebraska as a graduate transfer. That was so that he could play a season with his younger brother Damion Daniels who is also a defensive lineman for the Cornhuskers.

Daniels is a nose tackle and so his production was never noteworthy, as it is more so his job to take on double teams and give his teammates one on one matchups.

His best season was in 2017 with Oklahoma State. He posted 26 total tackles, 5.0 tackles for a loss, a half a sack, and two pass deflections.

For such a big man, Daniels is quick off the snap. He is active in trying to fight blocks with a nice spin move in his repertoire.

He does lack length which limits the rush moves and counters he can attempt, though he was never much of a pocket-pusher and will likely not be expected to be, the 49ers are hoping he will be a clog in the run game.

The 49ers offered him $105,000 guaranteed, so a practice squad spot is likely in his future.
