Las Vegas Raiders announce release of DeShone Kizer among others

The Las Vegas Raiders officially announced the release of quarterback DeShone Kizer and others on Tuesday among a flurry of roster moves.
The Las Vegas Raiders made quite a few roster moves on Tuesday from the official signing of their first wave of undrafted free agents to the release of a handful of veteran players — most notably quarterback DeShone Kizer.
The Raiders announced on Tuesday that Kizer along with tight end Paul Butler, linebackers Te’Von Coney and Quentin Poling, defensive end Kendall Donnerson, and offensive lineman Kyle Kalis had been officially waived.

None will exactly make many headlines, but Kizer is probably the most notable player on the list. The former second-round pick was claimed off waivers just before the start of the season and he spent the entirety of the year on the roster as the team’s third-string quarterback.
However, he didn’t appear in a single game. The Raiders’ decision to bring back Nathan Peterman on an original-round tender combined with the signing of Marcus Mariota ultimately sealed Kizer’s fate.
Rather than have him compete with Peterman for the third-string job in the preseason, the Raiders simply opted to cut ties with him long before the start of the season.
The only released player to have played in an actual regular-season game was Poling who suited up for one Week 10 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, played five special-teams snaps, and subsequently returned to the practice squad.

Others such as Coney and Butler spent time on the practice squad and had reasonable shots at making the final roster last season. But now, their time in Las Vegas appears to be over before it ever began.
Meanwhile, the Raiders announced the signing of their first four undrafted free agents in linebacker Javin White, long snapper Liam McCullough, tight end Nick Bowers, and cornerback Madre Harper.
White is perhaps the most intriguing as the Oakland native and former UNLV star possesses the speed and athleticism that is required of a modern-day NFL linebacker. Expect White to establish himself as a fan-favorite and preseason darling.
The Raiders took part in some spring cleaning today and made way for a new crop of rookies to earn spots on the roster.
