By Matt Hawkins
2011 – Not bad, not bad at all
Total games played for the Sharks: 354 games
Player with the greatest impact for the Sharks: Matthew Nieto (221 games)
San Jose had just six picks this draft, but saw a third of these players suit up for them at some point. These two players were second-round, 47th-overall pick left wing Matthew Nieto (221 games) and sixth-round, 179th-overall pick defenseman Dylan DeMelo (133 games).
In Nieto’s 221 games with the Sharks, he scored 70 points (28 goals, 42 assists). DeMelo posted 32 points (three goals, 29 assists) and a plus/minus of +1 in his 133 games before being traded to the Ottawa Senators in a deal to acquire defenseman Erik Karlsson.

2012 – Clearing every Hertl
Total games played for the Sharks: 865 games
Player with the greatest impact for the Sharks: Tomas Hertl (453 games)
For the second year in a row, the Sharks had six picks in the draft. Out of these six selections, two-thirds would play for the team at some point. You read that right — FOUR out of the six Sharks’ picks from the 2012 draft have played for the team at some point.
These players are 17th-overall pick center Tomas Hertl (453 games), 55th-overall pick center Chris Tierney (284 games), 138th-overall pick center Danny O’Regan, and 198th-overall pick defenseman Joakim Ryan (106 games).
Hertl, being the only player from this draft left on the team and playing more than half the games from this class, has definitely been the most impactful player from the draft. So far, he’s scored 280 points (132 goals, 148 assists) during his time with the Sharks.
