San Jose Sharks: Ranking every draft class from the 2010s
By Matt Hawkins
2010 – Starting off with a dud
Total games played for the Sharks: 12 games
Player with the greatest impact for the Sharks: Freddie Hamilton (12 games)
The Sharks made eight picks, tied for second-most with 2014, but only got 12 games out of these players. This draft wouldn’t have been so bad if they kept their first-round selection, center Charlie Coyle (28th overall).
Coyle was traded away by the Sharks, before ever playing a game for them, to the Minnesota Wild to acquire defenseman Brent Burns back in June of 2011. Although the trade worked out well for the Sharks, it makes this draft class seem very weak.
Fifth-round pick (129th overall) center Freddie Hamilton turned out to have the greatest impact for San Jose, playing in 12 games but not scoring any points.
2013 – Draft? What draft?
Total games played for the Sharks: 54 games
Player with the greatest impact for the Sharks: Mirco Mueller (54 games)
San Jose had seven selections this year and missed on nearly every one of them. The only exception — 18th overall pick, defenseman Mirco Mueller.
Before being traded to the New Jersey Devils in June of 2017, Mueller played 54 games for the Sharks. In those 54 games, Mueller recorded six points (two goals, four assists) and a plus/minus of -10.
This wasn’t the worst draft by the Sharks during the 2010s, but it sure wasn’t a good one.
