49ers 7–Round Mock Draft: An aggressive trade back in Round 1
By Ryan Heckman
Round 2, Pick 46: Zack Baun, LB, Wisconsin
First of all, let me explain how we got here. In a huge trade with the Denver Broncos, San Francisco sends them picks 31 and 211. In exchange, Denver deals them picks 46, 77 and 118, giving them a selection in the second, third and fourth round.
Now, to the pick, and it’s a steal. At 46, Zack Baun is an enormous value. He is one of the most well-rounded linebackers of this class and gives the 49ers plenty of versatility.
Baun comes to the league as an undersized edge rusher, but also has the potential to play stand-up linebacker either inside or outside, truthfully. He has excellent speed for a linebacker and moves well side to side.
Last year with the Badgers, Baun totaled 75 tackles including 19.5 for a loss and 12.5 sacks. He even added an interception for good measure.
If you’re looking for a linebacker with a nonstop motor who puts up a fight no matter the size of an opposing blocker, that’s Baun. If you want someone who is a menace in terms of stopping the run, that’s Baun.
He is only going to get better as a pro, and surrounded by a defense line the 49ers is a dream scenario for this young stud.
