Round 5 (156th Overall): Colby Parkinson, TE, Stanford

If no moves are made, the team will have a long wait between pick 31 and pick 156. However, the fifth round should have several players with interesting upside.

The 49ers currently boast one of the most impressive and dangerous tight ends in football in superstar George Kittle. However, sometimes a team is better off taking the best player on the board, regardless of positional need. This is the case with Colby Parkinson.

The California native is already comfortable with life in the Bay Area. He is also a monster target. His 6-foot-7, 251-pound frame would make him an interesting option in a two-tight end set.

He a very smart athlete with good hands and body control. Parkinson is also a good blocker who could boost the team’s zone run offense.

He doesn’t profile as an elite pro, but he would be an excellent complementary piece in a creative offense. I for one, would be very interested to see how Shanahan would utilize Samuel and Kittle, as well as potential newcomers Lamb and Parkinson.
