Why the 49ers should pass on Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo for Jordan Love
By Allen Settle
How does Jordan Love Fit?
Love makes sense for the 49ers for reasons far beyond his potential availability at the 31st pick. He has a skill set that would work well in coach Shanahan’s offense.
One scout reported that the former Aggies star has “Mahomes’-like” abilities.” While this is far too much to ask of the rookie, it does speak to his high ceiling. He has good size at 6-foot-4 and 223 pounds, and a quick release.

His combination of arm talent and athleticism also make him a threat as a passer and runner (a combination that would be quite dangerous in Shanahan’s system). Joe Marino of The Draft Network described him as being able to “make any throw.”
Despite the massive potential, Love’s tendency to have a gunslinger mentality may cause him to fall. He has displayed poor vision and awareness that will need to be cleaned up if he intends to have a long career as an NFL starter.
Overall, there are concerns that he will miss open targets and incoming pass rushers due to his raw feel for the game. San Francisco should do their best to move away from Garoppolo’s huge contract and find a young player to build their roster around.
Despite his shortcomings, Jordan Love is the perfect target.
What do you think about the idea of moving away from Garoppolo in favor of a player like Love?
