2. Patrick Marleau traded to Pittsburgh for a draft pick

Mr. San Jose Shark is getting another shot at winning a Stanley Cup after agreeing to a trade to join the Pittsburgh Penguins. For Patrick Marleau, this is only his third team, with Toronto being his second stop after leaving the Sharks the first time.

Let’s be clear — no deal gets done unless Marleau agreed to a deal.

He did not have a no-trade clause upon his return to the Sharks, but given his professionalism and services through the years in teal, Wilson gave Marleau the respect he deserves in working on the trade with him.

Fans will find rooting for Marleau difficult, given the bitterness of 2016 in the final. A strong possibility remains that Marleau will likely return to San Jose next season to provide veteran leadership.

Pittsburgh sends a 2021 third-round selection to San Jose. The selection becomes a second-round pick if the Penguins win the Stanley Cup this season.

The Penguins pick up a depth-forward for the playoff run, but production remains in question for Marleau, who has shown he can still skate.
