When to Target: Last Round-Undrafted

This is admittedly a bit of a dart throw.

While the save statistic tends to be a bit unpredictable, it is certainly important in fantasy baseball. Even a team like the Giants, who are not expected to win a large number of games, will still have players who record a valuable number of saves.

Manager Gabe Kapler has already stated publicly that he intends to use a closer-by-committee strategy. Shaun Anderson and Tony Watson are currently the two names at the top of most projection lists.

While the fact that Watson is a lefty may cause the team to employ him in other situations, I predict that he will finish the season as the team’s leader in saves. He will have even more value in leagues that reward players based on holds as well.

Make no mistake, this selection is a gamble. ESPN does not have Watson ranked in their top 300 overall or in their top 75 relief pitchers. However, MLB.com does believe Watson will receive opportunities, ranking him 264th overall.

If you feel the need to add a Giants’ player to your roster, use your final pick on Watson. However, the wisest fantasy managers will add him to their watch list and pick him up when he begins to show promise.
