The Golden State Warriors recently gave updates on the statuses of their two star guards in Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

With 26 games to go until this season comes to a close, the world has been speculating if star backcourt Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson will return this season for the Golden State Warriors.

The team recently addressed both of their progression from injury, assuring one of them will play this season, while the other will not.

This season has been a forgettable one for the Golden State Warriors, mostly because Curry and Thompson have battled severe injuries. These injuries have kept them out a majority if not all of this year, sending the Warriors in a downward spiral and a 12-44 record.

Thompson has not seen any action this season, rehabbing from a torn ACL during Game 6 of the NBA Finals last season versus the Toronto Raptors.

After the season progressed in the opposite direction of success, speculation was that Klay would just sit out this year and come back at full strength next season.

Yet, after recently being re-evaluated, Thompson was reportedly right on track with his rehab, and there were rumors he could potentially return this season to play a few games to get a feel of the game once again.

The team shut these rumors down on Thursday, however, reassuring Klay Thompson will not step back on to the court in a game this season. Regarding his backcourt partner Stephen Curry, his news is the complete opposite.

The two-time league MVP has only played in four games this season before breaking his left hand on October 30th. A much less serious injury, a Curry return has been reasonable all season — the only question was when.

There has been no official return date set as of now, but with 26 games left, a return could be nearing if we will indeed see one. Although resting Curry for the remainder of this season might seem like a smart move, it has not crossed the team’s mind.

This organization may have the worst record in the league, but head coach Steve Kerr is eager for a Curry return regardless. He wants this return so he can see how his point guard plays alongside newcomer Andrew Wiggins and the rest of the new Warriors.

Regarding his rehab, Kerr says that Curry has done everything but scrimmage with the team, and he’s “looking great.”

After a season of misery following a five-year stretch of dominance, fans are patiently awaiting a fresh start next season already. This new trio of Curry, Thompson, and Wiggins has all the potential in the world to make some noise and lift the team back into championship contention immediately.

For now, fans will have to sit through these finals 26 games with their eyes set on what the future holds. The Warriors will be drafting in the lottery for the first time since 2012 here, and have the potential even to add another piece to bolster this roster.

At this moment, health remains the biggest obstacle for this team, but the future looks very bright for the Golden State Warriors.
