Oakland Athletics: A complete fantasy baseball guide for 2020
By Allen Settle
2. Matt Chapman, 3B
When to Target: Picks 60-70
Matt Chapman has been the heart and soul of the Athletics for the past two seasons. He followed up a breakout 2018 campaign with personal highs across the board in 2019.
He finished last season with 36 homers, 91 RBI, and a solid .249 average. Chapman was also named to his first All-Star game.
All baseball fans know that Chapman brings an elite glove to Oakland’s defensive. While this does not translate to the fantasy game, it will ensure that he will be on the field as much as possible.
His defensive ability is so valuable that Chapman would continue to see playing time even in the midst of a hitting slump.
The franchise third baseman is currently ranked 70th by ESPN and 115th by MLB.com. However, I predict the star will surpass his projections and become the most valuable fantasy player on either Bay Area team.
Don’t be afraid to reach for a player like Chapman, who will produce at a high level all season.
