Sacramento Kings: 3 stars to target at the trade deadline
By Allen Settle
3. LaMarcus Aldridge
Trading for a player like LaMarcus Aldridge would be a risky proposition for the Kings. The seven-time All-Star is still an elite player. However, his age (34) and his potential cost would require sacrificing future assets in an effort to win now.
Aldridge is currently averaging 19.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game with the San Antonio Spurs. He has one of the best mid-range jumps in the NBA and his post fade-away is still automatic.

The former Texas Longhorns big man would immediately become the most talented player to play for Sacramento since prime-DeMarcus Cousins. Not only would he provide the team with a go-to scoring threat, but he would also bring valuable veteran leadership.
Acquiring Aldridge would also further weaken a Spurs team that is also jostling for one of the final Western Conference playoff sports.
What Would it Cost?
If the Spurs decided to commit to their first legitimate rebuild since the David Robinson era, they may be willing to part with the star without asking for a king’s ransom in return. Any cap relief and future assets would be enticing.
Like most of these aforementioned trades, the Kings would have to include the contracts of Dedmon, Ariza, or Cory Joseph to make the salary exchange work. Bogdanovic would also be an important chip.
Add in a first-round pick (which would presumably become less valuable the moment Aldridge was acquired) and the Kings would almost assuredly have enough to acquire a new franchise centerpiece.
Honorable Mentions:
- Chris Paul (His massive salary would allow the Kings to acquire a proven winner for very minimal compensation.)
- DeMar DeRozan (The fit would be questionable, but DeRozan is a four-time All-Star with the ability to score at will. For the right price, he would give the team a boost.)
