San Francisco Giants: Top 5 free agent targets this offseason
By Allen Settle
5: Julio Teheran
Now that Bumgarner has officially parted ways with the Giants, the team must address their lack of starting pitching. While the recent addition of Kevin Gausman could provide some relief, his 5.72 ERA is far from trustworthy.
Once you get past Jeff Samardzija and Johnny Cueto, there are very few proven arms in the rotation.
Despite the fact that Julio Teheran’s production has dropped off a bit since his All-Star seasons in 2014 and 2016, he is still very capable of producing at the major league level.

He has pitched 174 or more innings and appeared in 30 or more games in every season since 2013. He has also remained a competent strikeout threat, posting 162 strikeouts in each of the past two seasons.
A player like Teheran could be the perfect workhorse to add to the Giants’ roster. He has an excellent track record for durability and would ensure the Giants have a chance to win every time he took the mound.
Perhaps even more importantly, Teheran would ensure that the team would have enough arms to make it through the season.
There will be nearly 1,500 innings of work in 2020. Teheran’s services would help ensure that San Francisco’s trio of young starters (Tyler Beede, Logan Webb, and Dereck Rodriguez) could continue their development without fear of being overworked.
