Sacramento Kings: All-Decade Team for the 2010’s
By Allen Settle
Coach: Dave Joerger
This was the most tightly contested position on the All-Decade team. There is no better indication of the Kings’ struggles between 2010 and 2020 than the fact that the team has had a total of seven different head coaches during that time.
The names included Paul Westphal, Keith Smart, Mike Malone, Tyrone Corbin, George Karl, Dave Joerger, and current coach Luke Walton.

Despite this plethora of different leaders, none of the coaches lasted more than a few seasons. They all also failed to record a winning percentage above 40%. Needless to say, the postseason was nothing more than an afterthought for each of these seven men.
However, despite the disappointing resumes, there is one coach who stood out amongst this group — Dave Joerger.
Joerger’s .398 winning percentage and 326 wins are the most by any Kings’ coach in the 2010s. His stint from 2016-2019 was also the longest tenure during that time period.
Joerger was also the first coach to help the team begin to show signs of relevance after a long stretch of mediocrity. After posting win totals in the teens and twenties for years, Joerger was able to set the Kings back on the right track.
The team’s 39 wins during his final season were the most they had won since their last playoff berth in 2005.
While Joerger’s occasional clash with management led to his eventual dismissal, he was undoubtedly a considerable part of building a new culture in Sacramento culture.
