Oakland Raiders: Rookie report card at the midway point of the season
By Nico Di Fede
4th Round, 137th Overall — Foster Moreau, TE
While tight-end Darren Waller has broken out and become one of the best in the league at his position, rookie Foster Moreau has so far been carving out a solid season. That has made the one-two punch at the tight end position one of the better units in the NFL.
Moreau has caught 14 passes for 134 yards and three touchdowns. 10 of those 14 receptions went for first downs and his touchdowns have also come in clutch moments.
This past Sunday was the perfect example of Moreau’s game. His touchdown catch was in the fourth quarter to take the lead. And despite that being his only reception on the day, what he contributes does not always show on the stat sheet.
On the fake punt that went for 27 yards, Moreau made the key block that allowed fellow tight end, Derek Carrier, to get to the edge and into the open field.
It seems like every game he makes a key block or two and with the Raiders offense being run first which means a lot of two-tight end sets, his blocking like everyone else’s on the offensive line this season has been a big part of Josh Jacobs’ great season.
Moreau will probably never develop into a guy who is going to pile up a lot of yardage, but he is a great blocker with soft hands and is a perfect fit in a Jon Gruden offense.
