The Oakland Raiders could be just one piece away from taking control of a battered AFC West. Could a disgruntled Stefon Diggs be the answer to all of the Silver and Black’s offensive questions?

As the deadline approaches, the Oakland Raiders have unexpectedly overachieved after the first six weeks of the season. In spite of a difficult challenge away from home, they find themselves with a 3-2 record heading into Green Bay.

With the somewhat surprising success comes a somewhat unforeseen challenge in the weeks ahead: bolstering a roster that could very well find themselves in the mix for a playoff appearance at least a year early.

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to be the favorites out west, but the Raiders have hung tough and have pieced together statement wins over the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears. A test against the Green Bay Packers could thrust them into serious discussions for winning the division.

But with all of the areas that the Raiders have exceeded expectations, one area has been somewhat of a disappointment this season.

The wide receiver corps has been analyzed all season — and preseason — long. We’ve lived through the Antonio Brown saga. We’ve endured a number of injuries that have left the receiving group hobbled.

In a season where the Oakland Raiders seemed poised to be a deep-field threat with countless passing threats, the Silver and Black have had to lean heavily on spreading the ball around the field just to get anything going.

There have been plenty of positive surprises, like tight end Darren Waller, who just came to terms with a multi-year extension. He’s been utilized week in and week out, and he’s helped hide some of the concerns of the receivers.

But with Tyrell Williams — who was unfairly thrust into the role of number one receiver — still not practicing because of issues with his diagnosed plantar fasciitis, the Raiders have had to turn to unproven receivers to make do.

The obvious way to fix this is a trade.

There have been several big names thrown around in trade rumors this season. Golden Gate Sports has recently toyed around with the idea of what it might take to land someone like Odell Beckham from the Cleveland Browns.

While Beckham would be a splash solely based on his name, alone, there are clearly better options that the Raiders could invest their assets in — that is, if they choose to take that gamble this year.

The focus shouldn’t be on a trade for Beckham, who has a number of concerning issues that might overshadow his raw ability.

The Oakland Raiders should be looking at how they could possibly land Stefon Diggs.

Stefon Diggs is a game-altering receiver who has been tied to trade rumors all season long thanks to apparent unrest in the locker room about his involvement in the offense.

The NFC North is especially tough this season, but the Minnesota Vikings have been in the thick of things. This could very well be a season in which the Vikings roll the dice and go for it, but they can’t wait around for players who aren’t on board.

While the Vikings try to juggle the multiple stories asserting that there might be trouble in second-place paradise, a team like the Raiders could potentially swoop in.

It’s a more realistic deal than some of the other connections that have been speculated. And, even more importantly, it might be the right move. It would bring a bonafide number one receiver to the Silver and Black.

It’d be a younger, cheaper Antonio Brown sans all the drama.

The Raiders would have to get crafty if they want to make a trade like this happen, however. It might not be as simple as throwing picks toward a contending Minnesota team.

But before we get into the trade packages that might get it done, we need to take a look at exactly what might be expected in a return for Stefon Diggs.
