Trade #1: First Round Pick (2020) & Third Round Pick (2020) for Odell Beckham Jr.

If anything gets a team that’s waving their white flag interested, it’s draft capital.

The Oakland Raiders might want to keep the players that they have rostered and stick to simply throwing out some of their picks to try to get their superstar receiver that they were hoping for throughout the offseason.

This is probably the point where Raider Nation groans and realizes that this probably means parting ways with one of the two first-round draft picks in the 2020 NFL Draft. Well, that’s what it’s going to take.

The Khalil Mack trade positioned the Oakland Raiders to have a memorable draft this upcoming offseason. They have both their own first-round pick and the Chicago Bears’ first-round pick.

Based on recent draft success, that kind of draft capital should be coveted — and it is. By both teams involved in this hypothetical trade.

The Raiders have the option to white-knuckle both of those picks and make them count for this upcoming draft or accept that they’re playing with an abundance of riches and buy-in on a player who might be available during a season where the Raiders could make a push.

If the latter is what Oakland is willing to do, then this might be the route to go.

The good news for the Raiders would be that they could probably get away with giving up the lower of the two draft picks, depending on how the Bears do in comparison for the rest of the season.

If the Raiders end up going for it and have confidence that they’ve knocked the wind out of the Chicago Bears’ sails as they head back to the mainland, then they could hold onto the fruits of the Mack trade instead.

There’s no reason for the Raiders to want to outright tank for the rest of the season. That doesn’t seem like it’s in Gruden’s M.O.

To add to the package, the Raiders could throw in a third-round pick to get them more onboard.

This trade somewhat mirrors the return that the New York Giants received when they dealt Beckham earlier this year, but it leaves off contributing prospect players that the Raiders will want to hold onto.

Gruden and company might prefer a deal like this, as it allows them to retain some of the pieces that they might see as long-term fits with the team.

But it would require sacrifice in terms of that draft capital. The Raiders would go back to square one after pulling the trigger on the Mack deal.

All for a player that would hopefully get them over the offensive hump late in games.
