Oakland Raiders: Rookie stock report following Week 5 win over the Bears
By Nico Di Fede
Stock Up: Foster Moreau, Maxx Crosby, A.J. Cole
Foster Moreau had another solid outing after getting the first touchdown of his career last week. He caught four passes for 46 yards which aren’t eye-catching numbers but two of those receptions were big-time plays in the fourth quarter on the Raiders game-winning drive.
On 3rd-and-1 Moreau got wide open on a crossing route and hauled in the pass for a 23 yard gain. Later in the drive, Moreau caught a 16-yarder in the red zone which set up the series for Jacobs to punch it in for the touchdown.
Moreau was mostly a blocker in college but was drafted in the fourth round due to his potential as a pass-catcher and you are starting to see that potential come to form as the season goes on.
‘Mad’ Maxx Crosby got his first career sack, in his first NFL start, filling in for Clelin Ferrell who was out with a concussion.
Raiders fans and media have been talking about how the fourth-round pick has outperformed the fourth-overall pick Ferrell through the first quarter of the season and he made that belief a matter of fact today instead of it just being a too early opinion.
Crosby’s sack was the only stat he recorded — as the one solo tackle is from that sack — but he and the whole defensive line did a good job holding the Bears to only 42 yards rushing.
Crosby was coming off his best game of the season where he made plays but didn’t get much pressure rushing the passer, so it was nice to see the raw but athletic edge rusher get his first career sack.
A.J. Cole had a decent game punting four times with one touchback and only one downed within the 20. Most of his punts were from almost midfield so he didn’t need to put much leg into them which is why his total yards were a season-low at 170.
Overall the undrafted free agent has been a lot more than decent through five games. So despite a not-so-special performance in this one, he is still on the upswing.
