3. A bowl bid is still very much alive

Entering Saturday’s contest, Stanford’s 10-year bowl streak looked to be in jeopardy after a 2-3 start to the season. And with a tough upcoming schedule, it was difficult to pinpoint four wins over the remainder of the year.

But after Saturday night’s showdown, one of those wins has already been accounted for in unexpected fashion.

Now, the Cardinal sit at 3-3 which is certainly much better than the 2-4 record that most assumed they would have following this game. Still, Stanford’s schedule over the remainder of the season isn’t exactly inviting, but three wins seem a lot more likely than four.

The Cardinal still have home tilts against UCLA, Arizona, Cal, and Notre Dame with road trips to both Colorado and Washington State. They still might have to pull off at least one upset — if not two — but a bowl bid is still very much alive.

And if Stanford can continue to play the way they did in this game, it shouldn’t be too challenging after all. Not to mention that starting quarterback K.J. Costello will hopefully be back before long which should certainly help their chances.

If Costello could regain his 2018 form, then Stanford will certainly have a very good shot at extending their bowl streak to 11 straight seasons.
