2. The tight end depth is excellent

Raider Nation saw it last week, and this week is no different: Darren Waller is indeed a baller.

Following up his impressive showing last week, Waller had seven receptions against Indianapolis for 53 yards. He was the most-targeted receiver for Carr, and he probably deserved even more targets.

Waller has quickly become one of the players to watch for an Oakland Raiders offense that might have looked very different a month ago.

For the fourth consecutive week, Waller led the team in receptions. His 320 total receiving yards on the year ranks first among all tight ends in the AFC.

He’s even tied Antonio Gates for the most receptions in the first four games of the season for his team.

  • While Waller has become a figurehead of this year’s Raider offense, he’s not the only tight end that deserves some props this week. Foster Moreau has quietly solidified the right end depth with his excellent and consistent play.

On 2nd-and-5 with nine minutes left in the first quarter, Carr surveyed the field and tossed the ball up in the end zone toward Moreau, threading the pass between two Colts defenders.

Moreau made an excellent leaping catch, stayed in bounds, and put the first six points up on the board for the silver and black.

It was Moreau’s first career touchdown. He’d finish the day with three receptions and a total of 30 yards.

Complementary to Waller’s obvious athleticism, Foster Moreau might end up being recognized as one of the steals of the draft. He’ll be expected to produce as he continues earning his stripes in the Gruden system, especially as Waller demands more attention.

At the very least, this week was a good indication of what Waller is able to do even when he is one of the focuses of the opposing defense.

You’d figured that the Indianapolis Colts had some idea that Carr would be targeting his tight end, who put up career numbers last week in Minnesota. Despite this, he was still able to have his way.

Raider Nation should be excited about their two tight ends. They bring a physical and athletic brand of football that helps alleviate some of the shortcomings that Carr has a quarterback.

You can expect those two to get more targets moving forward.

And the league should start expecting Darren Waller being a threat each week.
