Oakland Raiders lose to Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2: Let’s talk about it
By Sean Basile
The Oakland Raiders went toe-to-toe with the reigning MVP and didn’t get completely demolished outside of a ridiculous second quarter.
It was a tough game for the Oakland Raiders after a hot 10-0 start against one of the premier offenses in football, that of the Kansas City Chiefs.
From there, it was all Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs as they racked up 28 points in the second quarter alone on the back of a monumental effort from ‘Mahomeboy’ that helped the Chiefs coast to a 28-10 victory in Oakland.
Derek Carr threw for 198 yards and a touchdown and it was Tyrell Williams who was the recipient of that touchdown pass. Darren Waller had himself a decent day finishing with six catches for 63 yards. And Josh Jacobs had another big day of 99 yards on the ground on 12 carries.
But other than that, nothing really went right for the Raiders after the first quarter.
This game exploded in the second quarter for Patrick Mahomes and Chiefs, but from there, it was zeros across the board for both teams.
It was definitely not as action-packed of a game as I thought it would be. I had the Raiders losing this game, but by a score of 43-36 so points would at least be scored.
They just got shut down after the first quarter.
The offensive line did okay, but not as good as last week as Carr was sacked three times in this game.
The defensive line, other than Benson Mayowa who had 1.5 sacks, was pretty quiet against an above-average Chiefs offensive line that lost their starting left tackle, Eric Fisher, for most of the game following a groin injury.
And the secondary was picked apart in that second quarter of course. Patrick Mahomes exploded for 278 yards passing and four touchdowns in that 15-minute timeframe.

That infamous second quarter was the best quarter by an NFL quarterback since Drew Brees in 2008 when he threw for 294 yards in a fourth quarter.
Sammy Watkins took a step back from last week only going for six catches and 49 yards and Tyreek Hill was out of the mix.
But Mahomes and the Chiefs still managed to put up huge numbers despite that with Demarcus Robinson having a huge day finishing with six catches for 172 yards and two touchdowns.
On top of that, tight end Travis Kelce went for 107 yards and a touchdown on seven catches and the rookie wideout Mecole Hardman stepped up for Hill with four catches for 64 yards and a touchdown (the first of his career).
Huge second quarter for the Chiefs. Lower-scoring game than I thought it would be.

If you want to hang your hat on something if you’re the Raiders, you kept Mahomes out of the end zone in that second half. Rather impressive for a young defense if you ask me. This game could’ve gotten way more out-of-hand.
Raiders drop to 1-1.
Looking forward, they now go to Minnesota where they will take on the run-heavy Vikings. Not sure if they can pull that off, but I don’t exactly hate their chances to be quite honest and frank.
More to come on that game later in the week.
