The San Francisco 49ers emerged as the victors in their season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Here are our top three takeaways from their Week 1 victory.

It may not have been the prettiest game, but the San Francisco 49ers came out of their Week 1 matchup with a victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

However, the final score of 31-17 isn’t entirely indicative of how the game progressed.

31 points is a misleading figure given that the 49ers defense actually accounted for 14 of those points — 12 if you’re a stickler. On top of that, Tampa Bay’s offense only accounted for 10 of their 17 points.

But for the 49ers, it was their defense that carried them to victory and picked up the slack following a lackluster offensive showing.

It was an encouraging way to start the season, even if the offense struggled more than they should have against a weak Tampa Bay defense. But from a defensive standpoint, it’s hard to be more pleased with what we saw on Sunday afternoon.

With that, let’s take a look at the top three takeaways from the 49ers’ Week 1 victory.
