Final Review

While the team got off to a fantastic start (8-3), the 49ers lose four of their final five games. A 9-7 finish could put them in position to sneak into the playoffs, but more likely leaves them on the outside looking in.

It would feel like a disappointment, especially given how high expectations would get after their scorching start, but all in all remains a fantastic step in the right direction for the team’s development.

If you want reason to hope for more, the losses at Arizona and at home against Atlanta are the two games that could conceivably flip.

However, just as easily someone who has lower expectations for the team will point to the wins against Los Angeles and Cleveland as pushing their luck.

Regardless, this team is in position to be relevant and competitive for the first time in years. Garoppolo can assert himself as an effective NFL quarterback and the 49ers will go into the offseason knowing they have their defensive line of the future.
