In a matchup against Shanahan’s former team, San Francisco’s coaching staff gets to take on their antecedent. A large portion of the 49ers staff dates back to Shanahan’s tenure in Atlanta and that familiarity should work to their advantage.

Unless your team is an all-time great, every season has its stretches that make fans question whether the playoffs are even in play. This time the luck does not shake out in San Francisco’s favor and they lose a tightly contested game at home.

With two games against division rivals left, the 49ers will have a chance to make the playoffs, but won’t be in a position to sit their starters.
