The Stanford football team came away victorious in their 2019 season opener in a thrilling 17-7 victory over Northwestern. Here are three takeaways from the team’s first win.

Stanford football is officially back as the Cardinal kicked off their 2019 season with an exciting 17-7 victory over the Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday.

There’s plenty of reason for optimism going into this season with the Cardinal considered dark horse candidates to compete for the Pac-12 North title. But with a very difficult upcoming schedule, their road to the Pac-12 Championship Game will be challenging.

Over the next five weeks, Stanford will face-off against ranked opponents such as UCF, Oregon, and Washington in what could be a make-or-break part of the schedule. But for now, the Cardinal sit at an undefeated 1-0 following their victory over Northwestern.

There were a lot of things to like about the game — especially if you’re a fan of defensive football. The Cardinal’s defense dominated while the offense looked good at points before the injury bug struck.

Let’s take a look at the top three takeaways from Stanford’s win against Northwestern.
