1. Nathan Peterman, QB

Nathan Peterman has made a career thus far out of impressing in the preseason and that trend has seemingly continued this August.

Peterman once again turned some heads on Thursday with his standout outing in which he went 23-of-37 in the air throwing for 210 yards and two touchdowns. On top of that, he led the Raiders to a game-winning drive that resulted in a Daniel Carlson field goal for the victory.

The former Pittsburgh standout showed off his athleticism as well as his poise in the pocket making a number of pretty impressive throws against the Packers’ second and third-stringers.

And compared to his teammate — and current adversary — Mike Glennon, Peterman looked like the more accomplished and competent quarterback. Glennon finished just 4-of-9 from the air for a measly 38 yards as he was simply outshined by the younger Peterman.

Whether that will be enough to push Peterman into serious contention for the backup job remains to be seen. In all likelihood, Glennon will be given the backup role based on prior “pedigree” and contract size.

However, don’t be surprised to see Peterman stick around in one facet or another.

The former Buffalo Bills signal-caller still has practice squad eligibility and would be a prime candidate for the 10-man unit if the Raiders can’t find room for him on the roster. Moreover, head coach Jon Gruden has not ruled out the possibility of going into the season with three quarterbacks.

While it’s unconventional in today’s NFL, Peterman could force the Raiders to rethink their plans and carry three quarterbacks on the active roster.

A strong showing next week would only further solidify Peterman’s case for a roster spot — be it on the active roster or the practice squad.
