3. The Bay Bridge Series will be in June and July

The annual “Battle of the Bay” makes up the remaining four games of interleague play between the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics.

While we’ve only seen half of that series so far this season despite it already being mid-August, the Bay Bridge series will come earlier next season. The team will head to Oakland on June 6th and 7th before hosting the A’s in San Francisco on July 7th and 8th.

  • Since the Giants and A’s began their regular-season meetings in 1997, the “rivalry” has slowly become a series for fans in the Bay Area to look forward to each year.

The front offices of both teams have embraced it with open arms — creating a trophy fashioned from the original Bay Bridge — hosting fan events like art exhibits and “fan invasions,” and so on.

The Bay Bridge Series is perfect for the early summer months when kids are getting out of school and looking forward to seeing their favorite team play against their cross-town “rival.”

Sure, the experience for Giants fans visiting the Oakland Coliseum is a little different from the inverse, but it’s still a good time for all. We can look forward to the inevitable, light-hearted quips between both Bay Area teams regardless of what the team rosters look like.

But hopefully, we’ll see fewer people wearing split A’s and Giants hats. After over two decades of regular-season interleague play, it’s time to pick a side already.
