Oakland Athletics: 6 things to know about the 2020 schedule
2. March, April, and part of May will be a serious challenge
The A’s have been prone to stumbling out of the gate, so much so that fans practically anticipate a resurgence by the team each summer now. But the deck is especially stacked this upcoming season.
The A’s will have a total of eight different series against probable playoff contenders in the first six weeks of the season.
To break it down further, they’ll be playing a total of six against the Astros, six against the Twins, four against the Rays, three against the Yankees, three against the Red Sox, and three against the Indians.
Major League Baseball probably couldn’t have come up with a tougher schedule if they tried.
On one hand, it might not hurt to start the season with a tough test for the A’s. It would force them to come into the season focused and ready to go.
But, on the other hand, scuttling against teams that they’ll be competing with for limited spots in the postseason could come back to haunt them.
At least we have the ring ceremony to look forward to in April.
