San Francisco 49ers Fantasy Football: Studs, Duds, Sleepers, and Rookies
Duds: (The players who will be drafted early but will not live up to expectations for a variety of reasons)
Jerick McKinnon, RB — Last season, Jerick McKinnon was drafted as an RB2 who, coming from the Minnesota Vikings, looked to be the answer to the loss of Carlos Hyde until he tore his ACL.
Matt Breida served admirably in his absence and the arrival of Tevin Coleman signal the death of the expectations of 2018 for McKinnon. The 27-year-old is not yet ready to practice as Coleman and Breida are getting all the reps.
At best McKinnon is a part of a running back by committee approach, while at worst he gets relegated to spot duty behind Tevin Coleman.
Marquise Goodwin, WR — It has been said that speed kills and Marquise Goodwin is lightning fast. Goodwin won the “40 Yards of Gold” competition for a million dollars. Sadly, speed is not the only factor in being a good receiver.
Mike Tagliere of Fantasy Pros had the following to say about the blazing fast wideout.
"“There have been games with Goodwin that make everyone want to believe he’s more than just a role player. It’s why he was being drafted as a top-36 wide receiver last year. A year later, everyone has forgotten about him.”"
The 49ers drafted Deebo Samuel and Jalen Hurd in this year’s draft and are waiting for a breakout season from Dante Pettis (see below).
While Goodwin will have his bright spots, with Deebo Samuel currently taking first-team reps in two-receiver sets he will lack the consistency to be a starter.
