3. Nick Bosa

As the first overall pick of the draft, Nick Bosa was expected to be an instant impact player. So far, he’s lived up to his draft status in camp by playing like a star as a rookie in his first training camp. And this is despite being lined up over former all-pro left tackle Joe Staley.

The rookie has apparently been so good, that veteran Joe Staley has been picking his brain, according to offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey in an interview with KNBR.

Bosa was expected to be ahead of the grain as a rookie which is why he was slated to be the number one overall pick pretty much throughout the whole draft process. The only question mark with Bosa was his health and whether or not he would be injury-prone like his brother.

Well, those concerns are already arising again as Bosa had to leave Wednesday’s practice due to an injury related to his leg/foot area which turned out to be an ankle sprain.

We now know that Bosa will for sure not play at all in the preseason coming straight from John Lynch during an interview with KNBR which is unfortunate for any player as preseason can be a way of knocking the rust off after the offseason.

In Bosa’s case, it is even more significant as he only played three games in his last year at Ohio State and hasn’t suited up in an actual game in almost a year.

Even without Bosa, the 49ers defensive line looks scary. But with him, the team may have one of the better edge-rushing combos in the NFL with the combination of him and Dee Ford. That’s if Bosa actually continues what he’s been doing into the regular season.

Training camp, of course, does not mean much. But there are guys who don’t stand out at all during camp, so the fact that a guy whose spot is all but locked is showing the effort and getting the praise he’s gotten is an obvious positive.
