Another position battle that appears wide open at the moment is the competition at free safety. Although the return of Jimmie Ward could mean that the oft-injured, versatile defender ultimately gets the nod.

But that doesn’t change the fact that Tarvarius Moore has been quite impressive so far in camp.

Moore was moved back to his natural position of free safety in the offseason — a role he excelled at playing while at Southern Miss. The 22-year-old has looked confident and comfortable playing in his ‘new’ position and he’s clearly turning some heads.

In fact, Moore even received some first-team reps a couple of practice ago which could be a sign of things to come.

With Adrian Colbert struggling to begin training camp, Moore could have the upper hand over the 2017 seventh-round pick if it were just them two. But Ward’s return clouds the picture a bit and it’s very possible that the coaching staff opts for the veteran over the youngster in this case.

Still, Moore is clearly impressing and that’s something that hasn’t gone unnoticed by the coaching staff. And given Ward’s lengthy injury history, Moore might just be given a chance to play as a starter before the season’s end.
