San Francisco Giants: Breaking down the new prospects acquired at the deadline
By Justin Fried
Kai-Wei Teng, RHP
Kai-Wei Teng was the second of three prospects in the Dyson trade and he slotted in just behind Berroa ranking 29th on the Twins’ prospect list.
Teng’s numbers look significantly more promising than Berroa as the 20-year-old has a stellar 1.60 ERA in eight starts in Single-A this season. And his 3.59 ERA from a year ago doesn’t seem too shabby either.
However, he doesn’t have nearly the stuff that Berroa has as his fastball regularly only reaches the low-90’s limiting his ceiling. Still, his curveball is effective enough that he could project as a solid back-of-the-rotation starter down the line.

Again, we likely won’t see Teng in the majors for quite some time. But if he continues to impress in the minors, he could rise through the ranks quicker than expected.
Jaylin Davis, OF
Jaylin Davis was the only one of the three prospects in the Dyson trade not to be ranked in the Twins top-30, but we’re much more likely to see him sooner rather than later.
The 25-year-old has put up some impressive numbers split between Double-A and Triple-A this year batting near .300 and knocking in a combined 25 home runs. Davis has plenty of power but also offers a bit of speed as well scoring a 50 rating from FanGraphs.
His fielding is also a strong suit and he has experience playing first base as well making him sort of a Tyler Austin-lite.
After spending four seasons in the minors, Davis could be next in the line of outfielders the Giants have seen come through the organization this season.
