5. Jordan Devey

Jordan Devey was signed to a one-year deal this offseason to help bolster the offensive line after letting veteran Jon Feliciano walk in free agency. According to Vic Tafur of the Athletic, the coaching staff feels that Devey is a “big upgrade” over Feliciano.

Devey isn’t listed as a specific position on the Raiders roster, just as a generic offensive lineman. That is because he is versatile and can play both center and guard.

That versatility is why he is virtually a lock to make the team and why he was low-key an important signing as the offensive line does not have much depth at the moment.

With left guard Richie Incognito missing the first couple games of the season, Denzelle Good is slated to start in his place, but Devey may take that spot with an impressive showing in training camp and the preseason.

On top of that, we don’t really know whether or not Incognito will be as good as he formerly was. Taking an entire year off at his age in this sport is no small thing.

Although Good was serviceable when he was thrust into the starting spot, he is not a guy you ideally want starting while Devey has proven he can be not only serviceable but solid when given snaps.

Last year with the Kansas City Chiefs, Devey gave up no sacks and only one pressure in 81 pass-blocking snaps. Devey has only been a starter for a full season once — back in 2016 — but he was signed to be a swing guard who can also fill in at center.

While he is pretty much a lock to make the team, it will be interesting to see how he performs and whether or not he becomes the best backup on the offensive line — a unit that needs depth and has to perform to avoid a repeat of last season.
