Is the Golden State Warriors roster finally finalized?
By Justin Fried
The Golden State Warriors have made numerous low-profile moves as of late to help fill out their roster. But is their roster finally finalized heading into next season?
The Golden State Warriors‘ roster is going to look incredibly different than it has last year or even in years prior. To put everything into perspective, consider that Jacob Evans will be the fourth-longest tenured member of the team when the Warriors take the floor for the first time in October.
Evans played just 30 games and was a rookie last season.
While there will be some familiar faces such as Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Kevon Looney, essentially all of the team’s depth and two key stars won’t be playing when the Warriors return to San Francisco this fall.
Facing a difficult cap situation, the Warriors went out and made a number of low-profile moves in an attempt to fill out the middle of the roster.
After all, Golden State’s depth was gutted this offseason with the likes of Andre Iguodala, Shaun Livingston, Quinn Cook, and Jonas Jerebko — among others — playing elsewhere this upcoming season.
They will be replaced with new additions such as Jordan Poole, Glenn Robinson III, Willie Cauley-Stein, and Alec Burks who each will be tasked with providing depth to a roster lacking much of it.
The same goes for the likes of Evans and Alfonzo McKinnie who will have to step up and fill the vacancies left by their departed colleagues.
Currently, the Warriors sit at 14 players on their roster plus two players signed to two-way contracts. Of those 14 players, six are returning, three were drafted this year, three were signed in free agency, and two were acquired via trades.
With one open roster spot, could the Warriors look to add one more player either via free agency or a trade?
The short answer is probably not, at least right now.
It’s likely that the Warriors keep that extra roster spot open for a couple of reasons. The first and most obvious is to just save money. But perhaps the more intriguing explanation could be that the team keeps that spot open in case they decide to make a move midseason.

There’s been rampant speculation ever since the Warriors acquired All-Star guard D’Angelo Russell that the team could look to move him at some point. Especially with Klay Thompson set to return towards the end of the season, it might make sense for the Warriors to see what they could get for the rising star.
Trading him midseason for a package of picks could be ideal — and one way to do that would be to also take on some players with hefty salaries. That open roster spot could come in handy as the season progresses.
One intriguing option for that 15th roster spot would be former undrafted free agent Damion Lee who spent last season splitting time with the Santa Cruz Warriors and the big-league club. Golden State reportedly offered Lee a two-way contract but it appears he wants a bit more.
The Warriors could use some extra wing depth and Lee’s three-point acumen isn’t something to overlook, but it’s unlikely that the team gives in and signs him to a regular-season contract.

So that’s it. It appears that these 14 players plus the pair of two-way players (Julian Washburn and Ky Bowman) are your 2019-20 Golden State Warriors until further notice.
Of course, trades could be made from now until the start of the season and it’s likely we see at least one or two midseason moves. But for the time being, this is your finalized roster.
After a wild offseason full of speculation and expected overhaul, it’s nice to finally take a step back and relax. Now, we wait for the season to begin.
