4. Eddie Vanderdoes, DT

Eddie Vanderdoes missed all of the 2018 season rehabbing a torn ACL he had suffered the year prior but the former UCLA standout is healthy and ready to return this season.

Unfortunately, he may not have a job to return to.

Vanderdoes started 13 games during his rookie season but failed to make much of an impact while he was out there. The 24-year-old totaled just 18 combined tackles and did little to distinguish himself from the pack of rotational defensive linemen.

And in his place last season, Vanderdoes saw two rookies shine and maybe even take his job.

Fifth-round pick Maurice Hurst was one of the few positives from a disastrous defensive line effort in 2018 and second-round pick P.J. Hall showed some flashes of potential as well. And with the returns of Johnathan Hankins and Justin Ellis, the spots on the defensive line are filling up fast.

If the Raiders opt to keep five interior defensive linemen, Vanderdoes will have a chance to stick around but he’ll have to compete with former practice squad member Gabe Wright and “Last Chance U” star Ronald Ollie.

While he likely has the edge over the other two simply due to his former draft status and starting experience, there’s no guarantee that the Raiders even keep five interior defensive linemen.

Vanderdoes’ time in Oakland could, unfortunately, be over before he ever truly gets another chance to prove himself.
