Possible Fits with the Raiders and 49ers

The most obvious fit here is Thompson with the 49ers as San Francisco’s failure to address their secondary in the offseason could hinder the defense’s performance in 2019.

Jaquiski Tartt will occupy the strong safety role but Thompson could be a good candidate to fight for playing time at free safety given his athleticism and range. The likes of Jimmie Ward, Adrian Colbert, and Tarvarius Moore will also be competing at that spot so it’s not like the 49ers don’t have options.

The Raiders could also use Thompson in their secondary but he projects similar to a player already on the roster. The newly-signed Lamarcus Joyner already occupies a similar role as a hybrid safety/nickel corner making the selection of Thompson perhaps a bit redundant.

As for Simms, he could conceivably fit with both teams but in no scenario would he be guaranteed a roster spot. Both the Raiders and 49ers completely revamped their wide receiver corps in the offseason and the competition at that position is already expected to be very steep.

Simms could be brought on to compete for a roster spot, particularly with the Raiders as his kick return/special teams experience could give the team a younger, cheaper alternative to veteran Dwayne Harris.

This year may not be the most exciting crop of Supplemental Draft prospects that we’ve seen, but there are still a couple of notable names to watch out for.
