2019 NFL Supplemental Draft Prospects

This year’s Supplemental Draft class will feature five players who have all entered the draft for various reasons — most stemming from academic or legal issues. But while there are five players who are deemed eligible, only two are expected to be drafted.

The first of which is Washington State safety Jalen Thompson.

Thompson has started every game for the past three seasons with the Cougars and even earned an All-Pac-12 honorable mention for his 2018 season. At 5-foot-10 and 186 pounds, Thomspon is an athletic safety who should draw some interest from teams around the league.

San Francisco 49ers shouldn’t sign Tre Boston, despite rumored interest. light. Related Story

Over the past two seasons, Thompson has totaled 139 tackles and six interceptions establishing himself as one of the top defensive backs in the Pac-12. He has positional versatility with the ability to play outside corner, inside in the nickel, and at safety.

After losing his final year of NCAA eligibility, it’s highly likely that some team takes a chance on Thompson.

The second player who’s expected to be selected is former West Virginia wide receiver Marcus Simms.

Expected to be West Virginia’s top target this upcoming season, Simms reportedly violated the school’s code of conduct and was dismissed from the program. After initially looking to transfer, Simms decided his best bet was to enter this year’s Supplemental Draft.

Simms is an explosive athlete who logged a 4.40 40-yard dash time at his private workout. He has proved himself to be an excellent downfield threat as evidenced by his stellar 16.7 yards per reception rate throughout his college career.

However, his slight frame has led to some injury troubles in the past. That combined with his off-field issues likely pushes him further down draft boards than the aforementioned Thompson who could very well receive a Day 2 bid.

The other three players who are eligible to be selected are Syracuse linebacker Shyheim Cullen, St. Francis (IL) cornerback Bryant Perry, and Northland (Minn.) tight end Devonaire Clarington. However, none are expected to be drafted come Wednesday.
