Could the Raiders or 49ers select someone in the 2019 Supplemental Draft?
By Justin Fried
The 2019 NFL Supplemental Draft will take place on Wednesday, July 10th and the Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers could look to take a flyer on a prospect.
The Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers each put together some solid offseasons after disappointing 2018 campaigns. Both Bay Area football teams finished 4-12 but after strong offseasons, the hope is that each team could push for a playoff spot in 2019.
At the very least, it’s hard to do much worse than a four-win season.
Nonetheless, pretty much all of the major acquisitions have already taken place with both squads looking pretty similar to how they will come Week 1.
But one final opportunity to make additions will present itself on Wednesday when the 2019 Supplemental Draft rolls around.
Raiders and 49ers Supplemental Draft History
Neither team has had a particularly notable history with the draft other the years. The 49ers have made just two selections — excluding the 1984 Supplemental Draft which featured players who had already signed deals with the USFL or CFL.
Unfortunately, neither of those two players would wind up playing in the NFL. However, former All-Pro linebacker Ahmad Brooks was selected in the 2006 Supplemental Draft, but he was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals before heading to San Francisco in 2008.
The Raiders have only made one selection all-time in the Supplemental Draft — that coming back in 2011 when they drafted Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor. Pryor had little success as a quarterback with Oakland only making 10 starts and going 3-7 over that timeframe.
But we will always have his legendary 93-yard run against the Pittsburgh Steelers back in 2013 which to this day is still the longest run by a quarterback in NFL history.
