2. C Josh Phegley

Josh Phegley has been very consistent behind the plate for the A’s this year. After several consecutive seasons of Kurt Suzuki being behind the plate, the Athletics seemed to go through many catchers, but they’ve finally settled on Phegley.

Stephen Vogt and Jonathan Lucroy have moved on to other teams, which has now made it Phegley’s time to shine.

To start Phegley’s argument for All-Star candidacy, he has already caught a no-hitter this year. He has also been great at the plate with a .258 average, 9 home runs, and 41 RBI at the time of writing.

A’s manager, and former MLB catcher, Bob Melvin has been campaigning for Phegley to be an All-Star since the beginning of the season. In fact, he advocated for his candidacy in an interview with Martin Gallegos of MLB.com.

"“If you’re looking at All-Star worthy catchers at this point, I don’t know anyone that is more worthy than he is.”"

Again, it’s probably unlikely that Phegley will be headed to Cleveland, but he is a valuable member of the A’s and has been crushing it this season.
