Final Thoughts

Second-round picks, in general, have a very low hit rate and it’s very likely that none of the players drafted will have much of an impact at least in the short-term. In fact, there’s a good chance that the Kings don’t even make all three of their picks as each NBA team is only allowed two 2-way contracts meaning that at least one would need to be stashed on their roster.

That is unless they select a European player and stash him overseas for the time being. Either way, expect to see at least one of their players become a regular fixture in Stockton to start the year.

There’s still a chance the Kings could try and package all three of their picks to move back into the late first round, but even that is a bit of a stretch. Perhaps a team in a bit of a cap bind that doesn’t want to pay a potential first-round pick could be a possible trade partner.

We could even see Sacramento simply sell one or more of their picks for cash as selecting three second-round players is hardly ever advantageous. So even though the Kings’ draft day might not be as exhilarating as in prior years, there should still be some excitement surrounding what the team ultimately does.

If anything, the 2019 NBA Draft should be a nice warm-up for what promises to be a very important offseason for the Kings franchise.
