Mike Glennon

The Raiders may not have added a new starting quarterback in the offseason, but they are essentially guaranteed to have a new backup. And the presumed frontrunner for that job is six-year veteran Mike Glennon.

More from Las Vegas Raiders News

Glennon was signed in March following his release from the Arizona Cardinals and the Raiders clearly liked him enough to release his biggest competition, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Landry Jones.

After a promising start to his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Glennon as quietly fizzled away, settling into a role as a quality NFL backup. He was briefly given a second chance at a starting gig back in 2017 with the Chicago Bears but his one-year tenure in the “Windy City” is likely one he’d like to forget.

Glennon has taken the majority of the second-team reps in practice and will likely begin the preseason as the top backup behind Carr. But a strong showing from Nathan Peterman might not only cost him his spot on the depth chart, but his job.

If Glennon performs admirably, he should be able to outlast Peterman and secure the backup position. But if Carr were to go down, the Raiders might be in some serious trouble.
