1. RP Will Smith

Really, there isn’t a legitimate All-Star candidate on the Giants roster outside of closer Will Smith. Smith has been phenomenal this season book-ending a strong Giants bullpen with his impressive ninth-inning performances.

In fact, this wouldn’t be a “participation trophy” type representative. Smith has legitimately earned an All-Star berth.

The talented southpaw hosts an ERA of just 2.38 so far to go along with an outstanding 32 strikeouts in just 22.1 innings pitched. Smith’s 0.71 WHIP currently ranks fifth out of all relievers with at least 20 innings pitched and his 13 saves place him eighth in the majors despite playing on a poor team like the Giants.

Simply put, Smith should be considered the odds-on favorite to earn a trip to Cleveland for the 2019 MLB All-Star Game. But that doesn’t mean complications won’t arise.

Smith is likely the Giants most valuable trade piece this summer — along with veteran starter Madison Bumgarner — and there’s a very good chance that he’s moved before the deadline. If he’s traded away before the All-Star break, the MLB will have to resort to finding another player to represent the team.

But if Smith is still on the roster by the time July 9th rolls around, expect his name to be the one on the ballot representing the Giants.
