2. C Buster Posey

Buster Posey is certainly no stranger to All-Star games having played in six total throughout his major league career. In fact, he was the Giants lone representative back in 2017 and was one of just two, along with shortstop Brandon Crawford, last season.

So what’s stopping him from representing the team once again this year?

More from Golden Gate Sports

Injuries have already limited Posey from playing to his potential this season as he was recently placed on the injured list for the second time this season — this time with a hamstring injury. On top of that, Posey’s numbers are, of course, down from his previous All-Star campaigns as he’s slashing just .257/.321/.408 at the time of writing.

Luckily, the National League isn’t particularly top-heavy with catchers this season.

Willson Contreras, Yasmani Grandal, and J.T. Realmuto are the three catchers projected to earn All-Star bids at the moment but the Giants need for a representative could force one of them out. If Posey returns from injury and plays at a high level, he would even further strengthen his case.

Essentially, if the next player on our list is traded prior to the All-Star break, Posey might just be the player that’s next in line.
