Oakland Raiders: 5 burning questions following the 2019 NFL Draft
By Nico Di Fede
5. Was Derek Carr given the weapons necessary for him to return to form?
There was a lot of chatter in the offseason about the Raiders and Gruden wanting to move on from Carr. That didn’t end up happening and based on the moves made in the offseason it’s apparent to most Raiders fans he’s being given another year.

The Raiders made the biggest trade of the offseason acquiring Antonio Brown, arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL. He will obviously be the best weapon Carr has ever had and alone should make the team’s wide receiver corps better than last year.
On top of that, the Raiders signed wide receivers Tyrell Williams, JJ Nelson, and Ryan Grant. Williams is not a guy you want as your No.1 WR ideally, but if he is called upon in that role, he is capable of getting 1000 yards as he did with the Los Angeles Chargers back in 2016.
He’s a deep threat and the perfect No. 2 WR and complement to Antonio Brown. Nelson and Grant aren’t big-name guys, but you could argue that each of them is better than Seth Roberts, who himself was, at best, a solid No. 3 at times.
The Raiders also added the aforementioned Jacobs, who they hope will help improve the running game, as well as re-signed Carr’s security blanket in Jalen Richard. Trent Brown and Richie Incognito were added to bolster the offensive line and with all of that, the Raiders surely did everything they could to help Carr return to form.
So if he doesn’t, there are no more excuses. This is the make or break year for Carr and his future with the Raiders.
