San Jose Sharks: Analysis of the team’s 2018-19 defensemen and goalies
By Andrew Bet
Joakim Ryan
Last season, Joakim Ryan was the solution after becoming Burns’ defense partner and he appeared to be a very steady defenseman. Ryan never seemed to carry over the success immediately getting removed from the lineup after Simek made a solid debut.
In 44 games, Ryan posted seven points and never got involved in the contests. He will likely not return next season but can play at the NHL level and should easily find a new home.
Tim Heed
An offensive-minded defender, Tim Heed is likely to dress as the seventh defensemen for the Sharks at the start of next season. In 37 games, Heed put up 13 points and made the most of his opportunities when inserted into the lineup. He can serve on the second pairing for the Sharks power play unit given his offensive aptitude.
Like Braun, he can be a potential trade piece as NHL teams covet puck-moving defensemen and Heed could get the team some return package.
