San Jose Sharks: Analysis of the team’s 2018-19 forwards
By Andrew Bet
Logan Couture
Likely the next captain of the Sharks in the future, Logan Couture is the definition of clutch. His goals to start the rally and tie the game from a five-minute significant penalty in Game 7 against Vegas shows the killer instinct he possesses.
Couture finished three goals short of reaching 30 for the year but managed to be third on the team in points with 70. Throughout the season, Couture would be just one of the handful players to give a solid game no matter the score.
In the playoffs, Couture led the Sharks with 14 goals and 20 points. Unfortunately, he could not be a difference maker against the Blues being shut down offensively.
Tomas Hertl
With two significant knee injuries sustained early in his career, the potential of Tomas Hertl living up to expectations appeared unlikely. Any doubts on him are now in the past after the season Hertl displayed.
Hertl used his size and speed to give opponents problems in the offensive zone as he finished second on the team in points. He also proved he could center a line and be active as he did during the playoffs.
As his confidence grows, Hertl will continue to grow into one of the NHL’s best players and his rise can be beneficial to the Sharks next year should he remain healthy.
