2. Jason Verrett, CB

One-year deals in the NFL are almost always ‘prove-it’ deals for players. Jason Verrett happened to sign a one year $3.6 million to join the San Francisco 49ers.

Verrett has much to prove this year as he has been cursed with injuries over the last few years. When healthy, Verrett can perform with the best of them, but that’s just it — he’s never healthy.

It’s like the guy ran a marathon under ladders or punted a black cat.

His career was exceptionally promising, so he’ll be looking to prove that it wasn’t a fluke. That the injuries over the last few years are not a reflection of the player he is.

The 49ers rolled the dice on Richard Sherman who had been plagued by injuries and that clearly worked out for them. Now they are trying their luck again with another talented cornerback in Verrett. I truly hope he can find his footing again because when he’s out there competing it’s a wonderful thing to watch.

If he’s healthy for the majority of the season, the 49ers arguably have the best cornerback duo in the game. I’m sure Verrett would love to make that name for himself.

Balling out in 2019 or at least proving he’s healthy will likely lead to a nice multi-year deal for him. The incentive is there for Verrett as well as the mountain of pressure.
