The Raiders did manage to double-up at the cornerback position in the 2019 NFL Draft snagging both Trayvon Mullen and Isaiah Johnson in the first four rounds, but that doesn’t mean that all is settled.

Third-year pro Gareon Conley is undoubtedly locked into the No. 1 corner role but his partner on the boundary opposite him is still yet to be determined. The likes of Nick Nelson, Daryl Worley, and the aforementioned two rookies will all likely compete for the starting role in training camp and the preseason.

But one option remains available on the market who could step in and start as the No. 2 corner from Week 1.

Former New York Jets cornerback Morris Claiborne remains unsigned and he could very well fill that role currently left vacant. Injuries have plagued Claiborne throughout his NFL career but the 2012 sixth overall pick managed to stay relatively healthy during his time in the green and white playing in a total of 30 of 32 possible games.

He remained a solid No. 2 option for the Jets over the last two seasons even serving as their de facto No. 1 option back in 2017. While his Pro Football Focus grade took a hit in 2018 (62.7), he still has some good ball left in him and would be a solid option for the Raiders.

And with the team’s cornerback depth still a mystery, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to bring him in on a short-term deal.
